Environmental Engineering Technologists and Technicians
Environmental engineering technologists and technicians help develop,
plan, and implement solutions to environmental problems. They may work
in a variety of settings, including state or government agencies (e.g.,
EPA), consulting firms, research organizations, and manufacturing
facilities. These careers require an extensive background in the
geosciences and may be involved in a variety of tasks, including:

Collecting and analyzing soil, water, and/or air samples to
determine their quality and identify potential contaminants.

Designing and installing systems for wastewater treatment, solid
waste management, and/or pollution control.

Conducting inspections and monitoring programs to ensure compliance
with environmental regulations.

Assisting in the development of plans or operating equipment used
for remediation of contaminated sites, sometimes for clients in
industries such as oil and gas, mining, and construction.

Communicating with stakeholders, including government officials,
clients, and members of the public, to explain environmental issues
and solutions.

Travelling to remote locations in response to natural hazards.
