Gas plant operators work in gas processing plants, which are facilities that process natural gas before it is transported to consumers. Their main responsibility is to monitor and control the operation of the plant’s equipment and processes. Their geoscience-related tasks may include:

  • Checking and adjusting pressure, temperature, and flow rates, as well as monitoring for any leaks or other problems that could affect the safety and efficiency of the plant.

  • Recording data and keeping detailed logs of the plant’s operations, as well as the quantity and quality of natural gas products.

  • Responding quickly to any emergency situations that arise, such as a pipeline leak or a breakdown of critical equipment.
