Chemical Plant and System Operators

Chemical plant and system operators work in a variety of settings, including petroleum refineries, chemical manufacturing plants, power generation facilities, and water treatment plants. Their geoscience-related duties may include:

  • Overseeing the operation and maintenance of equipment used for the production, processing, and transportation of chemicals and other materials.

  • Running tests and recording data on the materials produced by the facility in which they work.

  • Following strict safety guidelines to ensure the health of both workers and the environment during the use or production of hazardous chemicals.
