Construction Managers

A construction manager’s job is to oversee a variety of building and construction projects. They require a moderate background in the geosciences and their duties may include:

  • Reviewing plans and specifications for the project, which may involve the use of digital maps to assess future construction sites.

  • Inspecting the site to ensure it is suitable for construction, including overseeing the removal of vegetation or alterations to the landscape.

  • Gathering information from engineers, architects, and other specialists to ensure the sustainable use of resources.

  • Ensuring that all necessary permits and approvals are obtained so that environmental and construction regulations are followed.

  • Monitoring the progress of the project and resolving any problems that arise during construction, such as delays due to unexpected environmental conditions.
