Tile and stone setters are responsible for installing tiles and stone on floors, walls, and other surfaces.

Tile and stone setters require highly technical skills to work on a variety of surfaces, including ceramic, porcelain, marble, granite, and other natural stones. Their work involves a variety of geoscience-related tasks, including:

  • Creating a demand for the extraction of resources, which are located and sourced by workers in the geosciences.

  • Calculating angles and measurements to lay out the tile pattern, ensuring that materials are used efficiently.

  • Knowing the properties of mortars and adhesives to set the tiles or stone in various locations.

  • Restoring damaged tiles or stonework in historic buildings to reduce the need for more natural resources to be used.
