Tour Guides and Escorts

Tour guides and escorts in the geosciences play an important role in sharing knowledge and information about the Earth with others. They require a background in the area in which they work, helping to increase awareness and understanding of the natural world. They are often involved in

  • Leading tours for groups or individuals, either on foot, by bus, or by boat

  • Describing various geological features and phenomena along the way, such as volcanoes, caves, fossil sites, or other geological landmarks. They need to be familiar with the area and its geology, as well as any relevant safety information.

  • Explaining the history of the area, including how it was formed and how people have interacted with the landscape over time.

  • Interacting with people from different backgrounds and ages. They also need to be able to adapt their explanations to suit the needs of their audience, making complex scientific concepts accessible to a wide range of people.
