A curator is responsible for managing and caring for collections of objects or specimens within a museum, gallery, or other cultural institution. Their work is focused on preserving and sharing knowledge about our natural history heritage for current and future generations. In the context of geosciences, this may include:

  • Collecting, preserving, and documenting fossils, minerals, rocks, and other natural history specimens.

  • Ensuring that the collections are properly organized and accessible to researchers and the public. This may involve cataloguing objects, maintaining databases, and conducting research on the collection.

  • Developing exhibitions, educational programs, and outreach activities that engage the public with the collection. This may involve collaborating with other museum staff members such as designers, educators, and conservators or professionals, such as anthropologists and archaeologists.
