Forestry and Conservation Science Teachers, Postsecondary

Forestry and conservation science teachers typically have a moderate to extensive background in the geosciences, in addition to knowledge of forestry and environmental science or ecology. Their primary responsibility is to teach courses related to forest ecology, wildlife management, soil science, and watershed management. They are also commonly involved in:

  • Conducting research in their field of expertise. They may be involved in research projects that investigate issues related to forest health, sustainable forest management, climate change impacts on forests, or wildlife habitat conservation.

  • Supervising graduate students and involving them in their research projects.

  • Serving on committees, advising students, and participating in outreach activities to teach the public about conservation efforts.
