Environmental restoration planners in the geosciences typically work to develop and implement plans for restoring damaged ecosystems, such as those affected by natural disasters or human activities. They may work with a variety of stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community groups, to develop their plans. Their work requires an extensive background in the geosciences and involves:

  • Assessing the environmental impact of natural disasters and human activities, to identify the most effective restoration strategies.

  • Developing a plan that will restore the area to its previous state and monitoring the progress of the restoration project.

  • Conducting research, collecting data, and analyzing results to inform their decisions. They may use a variety of tools and techniques, such as GIS mapping, remote sensing, and field surveys, to gather information about the area they are working on.
