Architects, Except Landscape and Naval

Credit: Daniel McCullough, Unsplash

Architects (except landscape and naval) are involved in designing buildings and structures that are safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. They typically work with clients to determine their needs and preferences, and then create designs that meet those requirements. Architects also often oversee the construction process to ensure that their designs are being followed correctly and/or to adjust designs and deal with issues that may arise during construction. People in these careers support the geosciences by utilizing knowledge about local environmental factors such as:

  • climate and weather patterns,

  • underlying geology (bedrock and soil),

  • potential natural hazards (e.g., flooding, earthquakes, landslides, and others).
