Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Managers

Transportation, storage, and distribution managers in the geosciences oversee the movement of materials, people, and equipment in support of scientific research and exploration. They may require up to a moderate background in the geosciences, and their responsibilities can include:

  • Planning transportation routes, modes of transportation, including air, land, and sea, as well as arranging for the storage and warehousing of materials and equipment.

  • Negotiating contracts with vendors and suppliers for the purchase or lease of vehicles, containers, and other transportation equipment.

  • Ensuring that all transportation activities comply with relevant regulations and safety standards.

  • Supervising a team of drivers, pilots, and other transportation workers.

  • Developing contingency plans for emergencies or unexpected events to prevent delays in supply chains.
