Dredge Operators

Dredge operators are responsible for using and maintaining dredging equipment, which is used to excavate sediment from the seabed or riverbeds. They must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and be able to adapt to changing circumstances. Their main task is to control the dredging process, ensuring that the sediment is removed efficiently and safely. Their geoscience-related tasks include:

  • Inspecting and operating dredging equipment to excavate sediment. They must monitor the process closely to ensure that the sediment is being removed evenly and efficiently.

  • Communicating with others such as the captain of the vessel or the project manager, to ensure the accuracy of the dredging location and quantity.

  • Record data on the dredging process, such as the amount of sediment removed, the time it took, and any issues that arose during the operation.
