Secondary School Teachers, Except Special and Career/Technical Education

Secondary school teachers who specialize in the geosciences are responsible for teaching students about Earth’s physical features, processes, and history. They may teach courses such as geology, environmental science, oceanography, and meteorology. They require an extensive background in the geosciences. In their daily work, these teachers may:

  • Preparing lesson plans that cover key concepts in the geosciences, including earthquakes, volcanoes, climate change, and plate tectonics.

  • Using visual aids such as maps, models, and diagrams to illustrate key ideas.

  • Assigning and grading homework, labs, and exams to evaluate student understanding of the material and providing support for students to help them understand complex scientific concepts.
