Chemistry Teachers, Postsecondary

A chemistry teacher is responsible for teaching students about the chemical processes that occur within the Earth and its atmosphere. This may include topics such as soil chemistry, ocean chemistry, atmospheric chemistry, and more. Chemistry teachers require a moderate background in the geosciences and do work such as:

  • Preparing lesson plans, experiments, and other materials to relate chemistry to the Earth sciences.

  • Holding lectures in which they explain and demonstrate on various chemical processes.

  • Conducting research on new developments in the field of geochemistry.

  • Writing articles or papers for publication in scientific journals.

  • Participating in conferences or seminars to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field.
