A geographer is someone who studies the Earth and its inhabitants, including people, places, and environments. They use their knowledge to better understand how these things interact with each other and how they have changed over time. A geographer may require up to a moderate background in the geosciences, and can be involved in a variety of tasks, such as:

  • Collecting data using tools like GPS, remote sensing, or field surveys to gather information about the Earth’s surface and its features.

  • Analyzing data to look for patterns or trends that can help understand the Earth and its inhabitants.

  • Creating maps that show different geographical features, such as terrain, climate, or population distribution. These maps can be used to visualize data and make it easier to understand.

  • Conducting research that investigates specific questions about the Earth and its inhabitants.

  • Presenting findings through publications, presentations, or reports that contribute to the overall field of geography.
